Duties and Responsibilities: Occupational Therapist
Assistants and aides help handicaps that are mentally, emotionally, or
physically disabled to regain abilities to perform daily living and self-care
skills. They work under the supervision of occupational therapists as part of a
team with physicians, counselors, and physical therapists.
Occupational therapy assistants work closely with
patients to observe them, help them, and make reports to the occupational
therapist on the patient’s progress and development. Most occupational therapy assistants
are employed at hospitals, and many work at nursing homes. Some work for
schools for the handicapped. Occupational therapy assistants may also work in
rehabilitation centers or at adult daycare centers.

Educational Requirements:
Occupational therapy aides must have a high school diploma or GED certificate. They receive their training while on the job.
