Psychiatric Aide- Technician
Duties and Responsibilities: They assist mentally impaired
or emotionally disturbed patients, working under direction of nursing and
medical staff. They also may assist with daily living activities and restrain
violent patients. They can also accompany patients in their daily activities.
Some tasks also include complete physical checks and monitor patients to detect
unusual or harmful behavior, record and maintain patient information, maintain
patients’ restrictions to assigned areas, clean and disinfect rooms and furnishings,
also they serve meals or feed patients.
Salary: $27,000
Education: To become a Psychiatric Technician or Aide, you
must enter the occupation with a post-secondary certificate and need at least a
high school diploma. Programs in psychiatric or mental health technology are
offered in community colleges and technical schools. These technician programs
include courses in biology, psychology, and counseling.
Reflection: I would not like to be a psychiatric aide because it isn't interesting.
